Define the Compressed-Air Basis for the Whole PET Line

Blowing air, service air and instrument air may have different pressure, quality and demand profiles. Adding isolated machine figures can misstate the connected utility requirement.

DIRECT ANSWER

What the buyer should decide

Collect each machine's required pressure, flow reference conditions, air quality and operating case. Keep circuits with different duties separate, normalize comparable flow figures, and verify what reaches the machine rather than selecting a compressor from a kW label alone.

Decision fieldConfirmWhy it changes the purchase
Demand basisAverage, peak and operating scenarioControls compressor and receiver review
Air qualityDew point, oil, particles and filtrationProtects process and components
DistributionHeader, distance, pressure loss and connectionControls delivered machine pressure

BUYER DECISION WORKBENCH

Make every air-flow figure comparable

A volume per minute is incomplete without its reference conditions. FAD refers delivered air back to stated inlet conditions; normal or standard volumes use specified reference conditions that may differ between documents.

Supplier inputWhat to recordWhy it matters
PressureGauge or absolute basis, required point-of-use pressure and permissible variationDifferent pressure duties cannot be combined into one unexplained demand number.
FlowFAD, normal/standard or actual volume; reference temperature, pressure and humidityIdentical m3/min labels may represent different air mass flows.
Machine operating caseBottle format, output, duty cycle and any peak or transient consumptionA single average may hide the condition that limits the selected machine.
Air qualityRequired particle, moisture and oil limits with the sampling pointDo not infer an air-quality class solely from the compressor technology label.
Site and distributionAmbient, altitude, pipe route, treatment losses and other consumersCompressor outlet performance is not automatically the condition at the machine.

BUYER DECISION WORKBENCH

Sum demands only after the basis and timing match

Illustrative bookkeeping only: three consumers needing 3.0, 0.8 and 0.4 m3/min, all on the same compatible pressure circuit and the same stated flow-reference basis, total 4.2 m3/min when they operate simultaneously.

  • If the figures use different reference conditions, have the supplier convert them before adding.
  • If a consumer belongs to a different pressure/quality circuit, keep it on a separate schedule.
  • Document overlapping operation, short peaks and storage assumptions instead of applying an arbitrary diversity factor.
  • Record leakage, purge and future loads separately; do not silently call an unmeasured allowance zero.
  • Ask for the selected compressor package's delivered-flow evidence at the specified duty.

The example is not a blower specification, compressor selection or pressure-receiver design. A receiver can buffer a transient but does not create additional sustained compressor capacity.

REQUIRED INPUTS

Prepare the evidence before selection

Missing fields should remain marked as open rather than converted into assumptions.

  • Blower demand by bottle format
  • Service-air consumers
  • Required pressure at each machine
  • Air-quality requirement
  • Operating simultaneity
  • Site altitude and ambient condition

TRADE-OFFS

Make the choice visible

Every option changes the machinery, operating work or project boundary.

Central system

Simplifies common utilities while increasing distribution dependency.

More storage

Buffers peaks but does not correct inadequate compressor capacity.

Redundancy

Improves continuity while changing capital, controls and maintenance.

PURCHASING RISKS

Do not let these gaps hide in the quotation

Carry every unresolved item into clarification and contract documents.

  • Adding nominal flows without simultaneity
  • Ignoring pressure drop to the blower
  • Combining incompatible air-quality classes
  • Leaving condensate and cooling outside scope

BUYER QUESTIONS

Answers to common bottled-water machinery searches

Use these answers to prepare the next supplier question; final configuration remains project-specific.

Can compressor motor kW determine the air available to a PET blower?

No. Compare delivered flow at the required pressure and stated reference conditions, plus air treatment, site conditions and point-of-use requirements. Motor power alone does not establish usable machine air supply.

Are FAD and Nm3/min directly interchangeable?

Not without the stated reference conditions. FAD refers delivered flow to inlet conditions; normal-volume figures use specified normal conditions. Ask for a common pressure, temperature and humidity basis before comparing or summing.

Can a larger air receiver fix an undersized compressor?

A receiver may buffer a short transient within a designed system, but it cannot supply a sustained shortfall indefinitely. Compressor capacity, duty cycle, pressure limits and receiver design need a qualified review.

CONFIRMATION REQUIRED

Technical descriptions are selection guidance. Final machine, capacity, material, component, interface, utility and service details must be confirmed in the project proposal.
